Hope you’re enjoying Week 1 of the Quiz league!
Meanwhile, the B612 Friendlies community is seeing a lot of new question sets get published regularly as ‘friendlies’, meaning open for anyone to attempt. Here are some of the recent ones.
You can find all these sets under “Public Question Sets” on our Linktree page:
1. Southern Hemisphere SHemimir, by Rajat Gururaj
Rajat Gururaj is the author of several Mimir friendlies already, including:
Provinces: An ode to geography’s forgotten middle child that can’t “shoulder the weight of Geography quizzing like Countries”, or be “sexy like cities”.
History Mimir: Co-authored with Nidheesh Samant
He’s also one of the setters for the B612 Quiz League, notably responsible for a quad you might remember as Brezhnev’s Triple Threat.
This time around he’s made a 48-question “hemimir” (6 rounds of 2 questions each) on subjects from the Southern Hemisphere. Here’s his own description.
I have written a 48 q MIMIR on all things South of the Equator (pun not intended), the history, culture, Geography, Science,Sports, literature of countries south of the Equator and it's people too. Please note that this is not a geography quiz.
Call it SHemimir.
2. Formula One Half-Mimir, by Akshay Gurumoorthi
Whenever someone makes a quiz on a specialist subject, like Video Games, they’re often expected to make the quiz accessible even to people who don’t have an active interest in the subject. Hence Sourjo’s Not Really Video Games. This is great for the community in general, but it’s also a bit of a loss for people who are fans of the subject in question, cos they missed out on a genuinely engaging quiz that tests all they know about their interests.
There are exceptions though, and one of them is Akshay’s 32-question half-Mimir (4 rounds of 2 questions each) on Formula One, which is the real deal. A proper test for your F1 fandom. Not specifically designed to be particularly accessible to F1 newbies, there are still a couple of questions in there that everyone should be able to crack.
3. Mimimirmir, by Dhruv Mookerji
It is practically an event every time the B612 community hears of a new friendly by Dhruv Mookerji. The author of such classics as Numbers, Letters Ladder, and the legendary Puns and Wordplay sets is back with another ‘high concept’ set.
It's called a Nested Mimir, because every question demands two answers, one of which lies 'within' the other. An example.
The nickname of a former POTUS can be found in the first name of an 80s boxing champ.
Answer: Ike, in Mike
8 rounds of 2 questions each. Best played in teams of 2, and with pen and paper handy.
4. Indo Indie, by Aditi Surendra
60 questions on independent music from India and around, covering rock, metal, fusion bands and more. It’s Aditi’s first Mimir set and it doesn’t premiere until Saturday at 8 PM IST, but here’s Udupa telling you why it’s probably going to be good.
The Indo Indie set was made using this Mimir Creator Template. If you’ve been thinking of making a quiz friendly at some point but haven’t gotten around to it yet, go and check out the template so you don’t have any more excuses.
You can still sign up for the B612 Quiz League. We’re a week into our 5th Season, but this is a non-competitive quiz league so it really doesn’t matter when you join.
If you’ve written a quiz set that you’d like to share with the B612 community, get in touch.
