Season 4: New Schedule, and a new Friendly!
We're moving the league start date by a week, and using the week to try out another experimental format
Update: The complete lack of data notwithstanding, here's the analysis for this set. More review than analysis, but plenty of background of every quad and what we were going for.
Are you all set for Season 4 of the B612 Quiz League?
Well, we aren’t.
Game Week 1 starts on 19th October
We’re hovering around ~150 signups as I write this, and while that’s a fair number, we want to get a few more before we start the league proper.
To facilitate this, we’re pushing the start of Game Week 1 to Wednesday, 19th October.
Hopefully, you and I will use the time to convince some more friends to sign up for the League!
…but but you promised us a quiz tomorrow
You’re right, we did. The original start date was 12th October, and what kind of quiz community would we be if we promised you a quiz and didn’t deliver?
With that in mind, we’re publishing…
A New B612 Friendly!
To keep you entertained during this extra week, we’re sharing a new friendly quiz. Questions are by Nidheesh Samant (the newest member of the B612 Setters Team), Harman Singh, and Vikas Plakkot. The set will be available at 9am IST 12th October.
Send us your scorecard! You can submit it on this form and we’ll be able to compile results in a week.
Some notes about the set:
This is an experiment in a shorter-than-usual format. Instead of FLQL’s 8 rounds of 2 and B612’s 5 rounds of 3, this set is 5 rounds of 2 questions each. That means there are 10 quads instead of the usual 15/16. So it’s like a Mini Mimir. Or a Tiny Mimir. Or a Timur. That’s what it is, it’s a Timur. I’m sorry.
Here’s the scorecard template you should be using: Scorecard.
Since the set is smaller, it allows for longer questions and (hype) more media! There are a fair number of video questions, with the media appearing either in the question text or in the answer explanation. Go slow, take your time, and enjoy the set. There’s no hurry.
The set includes some questions that we know would never fly in a league game. There’s a whole quad that requires non-verbal answers, which we’re sure would be tricky to judge. But this one’s a friendly, so the Reader decides the tone of the game. Be as strict or as lenient as you like.
Consider reading (or just playing) the set once before reading the game for others. This will make it much easier to judge non-verbal answers.
Sounds great, how do I play this Timur thing?
To play a game, you need 4 players and a reader. You can ask your friends or just post on one of our communities. Our Whatsapp group is extremely active, with dozens of friendlies getting scheduled every week. Join in, and say you’re looking for a game. That’s it!
If you’ve got 4 players and a reader, you can grab the Timur set here, use this scorecard, get on a zoom call and start playing.
If you’ve got 4 players and need a reader, we’re happy to read for you! Use this form to schedule your game.
When you’re done, submit your scorecard here for analysis.
