Last Week in Friendlies #3
A summary of quizzes published as friendlies in the last couple of days.
In the last edition of LWF, I made a big deal about seeing 6 new question sets released in just 7 days. The B612 community has responded with a slightly more prolific week this time.
Bollywood Antakshari by Utkarsh Rastogi
Poppourri by Paul Pop
The Money Quiz #2 by Zubaer
Pop Solos #2 by Vivek Tejuja
🎭 by Vivek Tejuja and Vikas Plakkot
MELAS-nutrition by Debanjan Mahapatra and Sourasis Bose
Lit Set #20 by Vivek Tejuja
Tamil Mimizh by Akshay Gurumoorthi
Reel vs Real by Aditi
Mixed Bag #1 by Huang Yi
All About Eve by Aniket Khasgiwale
Pilot Mimir by Avinash
You can find all these sets under “Public Question Sets” on our Linktree page. Please try them out, and tell us what you thought!
1. Bollywood Antakshari by Utkarsh Rastogi
In his own words:
If you love Hindi music, give the set a go. Sing the answers together and share when you watched the film or heard the song first. Play it with your friends and families! Always happy to read this for anyone :)
This was the first friendly release this week, but even if it wasn’t I would’ve chosen it as the perfect opening set. You do enough Mimir quizzes and a lot of them end up seeming roughly similar in terms of format and tone, but I genuinely believe that Utkarsh has made something special. With that tiny “you need to sing the answers” caveat, this set is much more of a group activity than a simple quiz. In the games I witnessed, folks were actually singing entire songs together, far more than they needed to for points, laughing even though they were 1hr 45min into a Bollywood quiz. It really was Antakshari. What an incredible set.
On the downside, this quiz is media-heavy and exists only as a ppt. You’ll need to handle scoring yourself (or use Wikiquiz in half-screen mode). Trust me though, the format and scores couldn’t matter any less than they do in this quiz.
2. Poppourri by Paul Pop
In his own words:
This is a 48 q set since I like preparing slightly longer questions (but only around half of them are, the rest are smaller). History, Movies, Sports+Geography, Comics, Science, Philosophy, Music, Language, Architecture, Games, Good and Mythology (with some audio-visuals).
I ended up spectating a game of Paul’s set rather than attempting it myself but soon regretted it. There was a lot of fresh content.
This quiz is intended to be played in 4 rounds of 3 questions each.
3. The Money Quiz #2 by Zubaer
In his own words:
‘Mo Money Mo Problems’ quite literally as this quiz is a bit more challenging than the first Money quiz. Have a flutter!
This is a sequel to last week’s The Money Quiz, which I loved so much that I had to record a game of #2 for our Youtube.
Here’s the game being played by Pravin Varma, Movin Miranda, Jing Feng and Shubham P. A quiz like this is right up Pravin’s alley, so get ready for a learning experience. Skip if you’d like to play!
4. Pop Solos #2 by Vivek Tejuja
In his own words:
Wanted to make this a series, so decided to write the second one because why not? Again, the same topics that were a part of the first one but all Indian, also most with a touch of retro: Ads, Music, TV shows, Webseries, Documentaries, Fashion and Books
Nostalgia is always a safe choice for quiz content, and the Pop Solos series is Vivek’s attempt to make the most of that.
As you might expect, this is not the only friendly Vivek wrote this week. There is also…
5. 🎭 by Vivek Tejuja and Vikas Plakkot
In their own words:
We needed a theatre set for sure. From musicals to theatre terminology to Tony awards and such, we’ve managed to cram it all in 16 quads.
A crossover episode straight out of my dreams, B612 founder Vikas Plakkot and Granddaddy of All Friendly Quizzes Vivek Tejuja have teamed up to create a full Mimir set themed around THEATRE.
I’m hearing incredible reviews for this set, which is the sort of sentence you need to resort to when you need to write about a quiz set but haven’t played it yet.
6. MELAS-nutrition by Debanjan Mahapatra and Sourasis Bose
No, this doesn’t have anything to do with nutrition. It’s just a MELAS quiz (Music, Entertainment, Literature, Arts, Sports), and it’s a Mimir, and a bad pun, and honestly what more could one ask for in a quiz?
8 rounds of 2 questions each.
7. Lit Set #20 by Vivek Tejuja
In his own words:
After 20 sets, I think I do not have any more lit in me, but who knows, there might be a lit 21 after all.
Narrator: There was indeed some lit left in him.
8. Tamil Mimizh by Akshay Gurumoorthi
In his own words:
This is a 32 question friendly on all things Tamil! Spruced with a lot of India content, hopefully you have fun checking this out :)
PS: It seems to be more fun when played in teams of 2 and in a format with free bonus attempts.
9. Reel vs Real by Aditi
In her own words:
The topic is Reel vs Real Life, a little bit about TV, movies, music videos - basically all reels (except the insta kind) and real life. All questions are either based on real life, or our real life experiences of reel life!
This is 5 rounds for 3 questions each, which is generally a good indicator that it was made using the B612 Mimir Creator Template.
Making 15 quads is still a lot of work for one person though, so maybe for your first Mimir Friendly, you can start smaller? We now have a Half Mimir template too, which means you just need to make 8 quads and your first friendly is ready!
10. Mixed Bag #1 by Huang Yi
In his own words:
15 quads of everything (especially new events), makes up this Mixed Bag of mine - as my Mimir quiz question setting debut. Enjoy playing!
Note: Even though this is only a friendly, this set does have tie-breakers. Play them as in main games if needed.
This is Huang’s first question set, and come on, you have to love the confidence of a man who names his first Mimir set “Mixed Bag #1”.
Another set made using the B612 Creator Template! How much will you delay releasing yours?
11. All About Eve by Aniket Khasgiwale
In his own words:
I've been lucky enough to have been surrounded by great women, from my social worker grandmother to my entrepreneurial mother, my amazing wife and my lovely daughter. So to celebrate the upcoming Women's Day on 8th March, I've set a women themed quiz titled "All about Eve". I hope you enjoy it!
This is the first set Aniket has released for the B612 community, but he also released an older set of his earlier this week which you shouldn’t miss.
12. Pilot Mimir by Avinash
This is Avinash’s first Mimir, and that’s honestly all I know about it. See this is why your friendly needs a theme.
Coming Soon
Yep, we now have enough friendlies flying around that I can tell you what to expect in the future too.
Krimir #1: Krishna Girish is putting the finishing touches on his first general set. He promises a general, accessible quiz, which is necessary considering he accidentally disembowelled most of us with his first Indie Music set.
Metal Hemimir: Gautham Mahadevan is fixing up the last few errors on his half-Mimir, themed entirely around metals and material sciences. I got to play this one earlier today, and it’s one of the best sets I’ve seen in recent weeks.
Other posts about Friendlies can be found here.
You can still sign up for the B612 Quiz League. We’re a week into our 5th Season, but this is a non-competitive quiz league so it really doesn’t matter when you join. Signing up would also mean you can play these friendlies with us!
If you’ve written a quiz set that you’d like to share with the B612 community, get in touch.
