Hi folks.
Week 7 is already in progress as I type this, so some people have already booked their spot in the tier finals. Check your draws if you haven’t already.
Someone just reminded me that we didn’t talk about tiebreakers this time, so I thought I’d put out another review of the rules. Even if you already know how tiebreakers work, there’s a chance your reader might not, so it's best to read this now just as a refresher.
Tiebreakers
This week, only one player from each game will qualify for the tier finals, so it’s important that we get a decisive result at the end of each game.
Ties for first place need to be broken. Ties for second place do not need to be broken, but tiebreakers are a lot of fun so if you have time I suggest you ask your reader to run them for you anyway. Ties for third, fourth and fifth places do not need to be broken and also there is no fun in doing them so don’t under any circumstances run tiebreakers for those situations, it is punishable by death and a fine of 40 rupees.
Tiebreaker Rules
Each player in the tie (even if it's a 3-way tie) will play the tiebreaker one-at-a-time. When one player is playing, the rest should be moved to the Zoom waiting room.
The reader will read out the 3 questions under Tie Breaker Set 1, and paste the questions into the zoom chat.1 The player will have 30 seconds to answer each. The reader will not reveal whether the answers are correct or not. Once the player is done with all three questions, the reader will move that person to the waiting room and bring in another.
The reader will repeat this process for all tied players. In the end, bring all players back into the call and reveal the scores. The score in the tiebreaker will determine the positions at the end of the game.
If the tie is NOT broken after Tie Breaker Set 1, the reader will repeat the process for Tie Breaker Set 2 (3 questions again).
Nearest to the Bull
If the tie STILL remains unbroken after Tie Breaker Set 2, the reader will run the Nearest To The Bull question. This question will require a numerical answer. The question will be pasted into the Zoom chat and all tied players will direct-message their answers to the Reader. Once all answered are received, the reader can reveal all guesses and the player who is closest to the correct answer wins the tiebreaker.
In the unusual circumstance that there is STILL a tie, there is ONE MORE Nearest To The Bull question. Use it.
If the Tie is not broken at this point, after 9 questions and 2 Nearest-to-the-Bull questions, we should conclude that the universe just wants a tie today. Inform the organizers.
Write down what happens in the Tie Breaker in the notes section of scoresheet submission form.
I say Zoom chat because it’s convenient, but the reader can also share their screen and paste the questions on any plaintext editor. I usually paste the following line into my browser URL and that works well on Chrome-based browsers:data:text/html, <html contenteditable>
